Thanks for the heads up Two more questions: 1) I've got a SotC patch to get Buzz! Working, any idea how to apply the patch? I presume you mean an updated version of HDLoader rather than a PPF patch? 2) Is there anyway to transfer onto the hard drive using FTP?

You can, but I wouldn't recommend it if you can attach the HDD to your PC. I've only tried it once, and it takes ages. BlizeH wrote: Huge thanks for the replies! 1) Hmm, it's a.ELF file, so I'm not sure, sorry.

That'll be the patched HDLoader boot file (it should be v0.8b). The extension just means it's a PS2.EXE file. If you're using the HDAdvance disc to boot, you've basically got two options to boot the patched HDLoader: 1) Use the HDAdvance disc to implement the Independence Exploit, so you end up booting via a memory card and a PSX game. This is the most elegant solution, but it's a bit involved. It's the best option if your laser's on the way out since the drive only accesses the PSX disc briefly. There's a tutorial if you're interested. 2) Use PS2Load to boot the patched version from the HDAdvance game list.

It's a bit of a kludge since you end up booting twice, but it works OK and is simple to implement. All you need is an ISO of the PS2Load + patched HDLoader which you transfer to the HDD via your PC. Tutorial for this is. I'd suggest the second method to start with, since it's quick to set up. I've just used this as a quick fix for the God of War 2 demo, and it works fine.

Go to download the ISO I've created. All you have to do is install it on your PS2 HDD using WinHIIP.

I finally bit the bullet & purchased the Playstation 2 HD Loader so I could play around with my FFXI HD which was collecting dust. Of course, I got swindled by the website that I purchased it from (got a PS1 game & a memory card instead of the 'official disc') What I was curious about is if I'm just better off running my PS2 games through my 60 GB PS3 instead? I know some people have problems with the way the PS3 upscales, but I'm curious if anyone has really sat down and compared the two methods (for loading time/image quality etc). I would love some feedback before I load 40 GB of PS2 goodness on my HD (I would save some time for playing these games instead:D). I actually just did this yesterday as well, picked up a used PS2 fatty using last week's $20 off coupon at EB Games and got the network adapter using this weeks 20% off coupon. I didn't have to use any exploits to get it working, but I used HD Advance and this tutorial from their website: I put my copies of DDS1, 2 and Wizardry on the hard drive and so far haven't seen any compatibility problems. I like the fact that I can leave my original discs in the cases safe from scratches.

Does anyone know if it work with multi-disc games? Also they seemed to recommend Maxtor drives and the biggest I had laying around was only 20gig so I'd like to get a bigger one. Anyone know what other brands other than maxtor will fit the network adapter (I've read that WD's don't)? And what's the biggest drive I can use, the HD Advance website says 200GB, but I've seen others say they've used 320GB drives without problems. I wanted to install Sengoku Basara 2 & KOF 98 Ultimate Match to no avail earlier today.

I know that there was a swap method involved, but is there another method besides this. I do have a modded PS2 to play my imports (legally I might add) but my mod chip is an older model that does not work with the HD installed. You probably need an external enclosure, a software called WinHIIP, and DVD Decrypter for D9 games.

There are a variety of optional patches out there as well, which are supposed to improve compatibility with certain games. I haven't really had the need to bother with therm, however.

I did have some minor issues (periodic fatal crashes/hangs) with Tales of the Abyss. I needed to tweak certain settings which are normally best left at their defaults, but once I got things working, I was able to fully complete the game and drop more than 80 hours into it. Load times are my most hated thing EVARRRR For those Yakuza 2 owners looking to have the same nice load experience as Yakuza 1, you're going to run into a snag once you hit chapter 10, it hits the second layer and won't run. There's a workaround, but you need to dump the ps2 disc, and then dump the iso so you can split and patch the layers. It's an afternoon of work or so. Or you could just play the last 6 chapters on the disc with the load times. For import games, you basically hook the ps2 hard drive to an external usb drive, and put the ps2 game in your PC dvd drive, and do the export that way.

Earth Defense Force 2 was the reason I bought hdloader. Cheaper than buying an import ps2. Cheaper than buying an import ps2.Or you can get a dual layer burner and create a single iso file. Though I thought the game compatibility was worse for slim PS2s and USBextreme?

And although there are still constant load times, Tales of the Abyss at least doesn't take forever between rooms with HDLoader.Personally I haven't dealt with Slims, but I did play Obscure through external HDD on fat PS2 using latest swap magic elf (or cd). I have both and I prefer using the PS3 because of the wireless controllers. That is the only advantage and the only reason I play PS2 games on the PS3. You really shouldn't have tried to buy the original which is far inferior but still, HDloader on PS2 is just great.

No need to search for discs, faster loading, excellent compatibility and you even strip out dummy data to fit even more games on your HD. A 500GB drive could probably hold 100+ games. I believe the original had a fairly small limit on HD size so you'll have to get the patched versions to take advantage or a larger drive. I've tried using more than 10 different Seagate drives and its pretty much hit and miss regardless of size or model. I've heard people having more luck with Maxtors especially and also WDs but I've never tried. Originally Posted by Neo_ZX I have both and I prefer using the PS3 because of the wireless controllers. I do have a second official HD that is currently sealed (could not resist the $16.96 clearance price at CC for FFXI and the HD) but I'm thinking I'm better off putting this on eBay and buying a larger HD. As far as the duel layer DVD9's are concerned, is there a guide or two out there that will help out with specific titles. I was debating about loading Shadow Of The Colossus.

Along with GOW II but want to be prepared just in case of any problems. You can then put your games into your PC's DVD drive and rip directly to your hard drive. By the way, KOF 98 UM and Sengoku Basara X have some problems running off of the HDD but you can fix them by tuning HDloader's options. Download Free Software Torrent Corso Chitarra Online.
