Maya Banks has once again delivered a powerful and touching tale about a scarred heroine and the man who would champion her in Highlander Most Wanted. Only Banks can deliver such a fairytale-esque storyline while also providing the reader with a potent emotional punch. In Never Seduce A Scot, book one in this series, we are introduced to the hatred between the Montgomery and Armstrong clans as well as the deceitful and horrid Ian McHugh.

Highlander Most Wanted commences with the Montgomerys and the Armstrongs preparing to face the clan McHugh. The McHughs have united the Montgomerys and the Armstrongs in their vengeance. The two powerful clans, who were once enemies, want nothing more than to see the destruction of the clan McHugh. Bowen Montgomery, along with his brother Teague and the Armstrong brothers, have been sent to kill Patrick McHugh, the laird of the clan, and to lay claim to the McHugh keep. All this being done to avenge the terrible wrongs done by Ian McHugh to Evaline Montgomery (once Armstrong). There were worse things than death, as she'd discovered. Sometimes living took far more courage.

Facing another day. Those things took strength.

Far more than dying. ***** All she wanted was a chance. An opportunity to be free. She wanted to live instead of existing in a constant state of fear and humiliation.

A reclusive woman content to live in the shadows shows a Highland warrior the true meaning of love. Genevieve McInnis is locked behind the fortified walls of McHugh Keep, captive of a cruel laird who takes great pleasure in ruining her for any other man. Yet when Bowen Montgomery storms the gates on a mission of clan.

Once Bowen and his men reach the McHugh keep he encounters a beautiful woman. She is the woman who led Graeme to Evaline when she was kidnapped (all in book one). Bowen is taken aback when the woman reveals all of her face.

One half is perfection while the other side of her face is marred with a hideous scar. Genevieve McInnis faces the Montgomerys and Armstrongs with as much courage as she can muster.

Her life has been a living hell for the past year. Ian McHugh became obsessed with her and killed her escort on their way to her betroth's keep over one year ago. Since then, Genevieve has been held captive in the McHugh keep all the while her family believing that she has been killed. She has endured nothing but pain, humiliation and horror at the hands of Ian McHugh.

Genevieve is now praying that these men who have taken over the keep will show some mercy and allow her freedom. “You are an angel sent from God at last,” she whispered. I prayed for so long for one. I thought He had forgotten me, surely.” Bowen’s features tightened and darkened. “I come too late. I have saved you from none of your misery. Would that I had known of your plight earlier.

I would have come, Genevieve. I would have saved you.” My heart shattered for what Genevieve had to endure, both physically and mentally. She was abducted by a mad man who proceeded to mark her in his obsessive craze and who wanted nothing more than to break her. It was a testament to her incredible strength that she was even alive and managed to face two powerful clans who were there to destroy the McHugh keep.

She surfaces from the year of hell not without physical and emotional scars, but also with an unbroken spirit, dignity and an admiral strength. As Bowen slowly discovers who Genevieve truly is and the horrific circumstances that she was forced into, he can’t help but fall for this remarkable woman who faced things that break his heart. He takes it upon himself to champion this emotionally fragile woman and in doing so he discovers just how extraordinary and strong she is.

“You make me feel beautiful,” she said, her lips trembling with emotion. ***** They both bore scars. They were both survivors. These were marks to be borne with heads held high.

Could she ever accept that and stop hiding behind her shame and humiliation? It was a nice thought, but the deepest scars were those unseen, the ones on her heart and her soul and her mind. And those were the most difficult to overcome. Bowen is exactly who Genevieve needed. He is a strong, protective hero who sees past her physical scars.

Bowen sees beauty when he looks at Genevieve. He is a balm for her wounded spirit. Banks shines in this book in providing a beautiful and tender romance that brings forth a true love and wondrous healing. Bowen’s love for his lass is tested but ultimately the pair find their way to one another. Highlander Most Wanted is yet another Banks creation that simply substantiates the fact that Maya Banks’ highlander books are beautifully crafted and epic. Any romantic at heart must read her highlander books.

And, in the end, my heart literally soared in happiness as Bowen and Genevieve found their HEA. I will forever read any highlander book that Maya Banks produces and am anxiously awaiting the next book in this series, Highlander Ever After.

Further quotes that had me swooning, sighing, crying or doing all three: Ah, he ached to be the one to show her how good loving could be. But ‘twas more than that, for he wanted her more fiercely than he’d ever wanted a lass and he couldn’t even explain why. He cared not that she was scarred, that a man had marked her face so that no man would ever want her.

If that had been Ian’s goal, he’d failed miserably, because Bowen wanted her with a need that bordered on obsession. ***** “You’re worth it to me.” ***** “Be happy, my love,” he whispered. “Be happy.” ***** “I would love her and care for her all of my days,” Bowen said quietly. “There is no other man who would ever love her more.” ***** 'Such a wondrous thing.

Something she'd been so long without. And yet now it bloomed, like the first blossom in spring, spreading its petals to seek the sun.' ***** 'You'll never have to beg me for anything, my love.

If you ask me for the moon, I'll fetch it for you.' Full review now posted. Highlander Most Wanted is the second book in the Montgomerys and Armstrongs series. It picks up right on the heels of the first book, Never Seduce a Scot, and while I truly enjoyed that story, I loved this one!

Highlander Most Wanted is one of those rare stories that truly is the perfect blend of romance and passion, despair and hope, trials and triumphs. It's the story of a woman whose world has been turned upside down, her heart and soul destroyed by a man so despicable, there's no doubt that he truly is evil. And the most heartbreaking trial of the story is also one of its triumphs, but I won't go into detail because I'd be giving away too much, and I wont deny you the experience of learning it for yourself.

But, I will say that there were times I despised Genevieve for the same reasons I ached for her. This woman so hated, so scorned and mistreated by the McHugh clan is one of my favorite historical romance heroines ever, because despite her year in hell, they never broke her, they only made her stronger. There were a few times I was sure I'd have to reach through the pages and throttle Bowen Montgomery! Stubborn, so devoted to his clan that I wanted to kick his man bits because I was sure he was too proud, too blind to see the truth right in front of his face.

And then he'd stop, think, and realize that not everything is always as it seems. Honorable, compassionate, strong and sexy as sin, Bowen is a hero worthy of a woman like Genevieve. The bottom line: I really can't say enough good things about Highlander Most Wanted.

It's an exciting, sexy, poignant story about never giving up, never losing hope, and never turning your back on love because, in the end, love is all that matters. My sincerest thanks to Netgalley and Ballantine Books for allowing me a copy of this book in return for an honest review. It was such a pleasure, start to finish. 2.5 stars So, almost every single one of my friends loved this, but I just had the hardest time with it.

And I think the reason is this: All I wanted was a fun kilt romance with some steamy sex scenes. The stuff that had happened to Genevieve in this one was a bit too awful for me to just skim and giggle my way through like I normally would. I mean, she was kidnapped, repeatedly raped, humiliated, and held captive for a year or so by the bad guy from the last book. I mean, she was kidnapped, repeatedly raped, humiliated, and held captive for a year or so by the bad guy from the last book. Oh, and did I mention he took an knife and fucked up one side of her face? I honestly don't want to read a trashy romance about that girl. And it's not because I think that she couldn't or shouldn't find love! It's more about the fact that I can't (personally) imagine how long it would take to be able to move past something horrific like that, and then learn to trust someone in an intimate way. Yes, it would make a great story. Just not one that I want to read about in this sort of genre, if that makes sense?

And please keep in mind that this is only my personal feeling about the subject matter in this genre. I don't think for a minute that anyone who enjoyed this book is guilty of making light of rape. I just couldn't make myself disconnect long enough to have any fun with this story. And I only read these for an escape or as a guilty pleasure. You know what I mean?

Yes, I'm pretty sure. Ok, having said all that, this was a sweet story. I think Maya Banks did a pretty decent job not rushing the sex scenes.for a romance novel. But in my heart of hearts I find it hard to believe that any woman who was systematically abused, the way Genevieve was, would be able to have multiple orgasms the first time she had consensual sex. No matter what kind of a rockstar Bowen was in bed. This is a fantasy sort of situation, and in said fantasy, I'm glad that our girl was able to recover quickly, and then have mind blowing sex with a sweet, patient lover.

Plus, I got a little teary-eyed at the end for some reason. Bowen really is one of the nicest guys I've read about in a while, and it was sweet to see a male character who wasn't concerned with looking weak, or expressing his emotions. Definitely not what I wanted to read about, but (for the genre) it was a nice story.

3 HIGHLANDER STARS After falling in love with the Montgomery clan in book one of the series, I automatically added this book as one of my must reads. Whilst this book delivered on the romance and swoony hero scales there was something missing for my full out five star rating, but don't be too disappointed as I am firmly in the minority here, there are a plethora of readers who loved this book to bits. But here are my book thoughts. What's it all about? Whilst this book delivered on the romance and swoony hero scales there was something missing for my full out five star rating, but don't be too disappointed as I am firmly in the minority here, there are a plethora of readers who loved this book to bits.

But here are my book thoughts. What's it all about? Genevieve Mcinnes has been living a life of imprisonment and abuse, as a captor her life was taken from her own hands until all that was left was a damaged and traumatised woman just waiting for a hope of freedom.

When the Montgomery and Armstrong clan enter her life this hope is made a reality, but still labeled with the shame of her past Genevieve needs more than freedom to make her complete again. Bowen Montgomery realises that the task to overthrow the enemies keep may be harder than anticipated when matters of the heart get thrown into the mix, but when he meets the damaged but not broken prisoner of this land he knows he must follow his heart to bring them both the ending they deserve. But will fate and families intervene when these star crossed lovers declare their love? 'Highlander most wanted' follows the journey, pain and love of Bowen and Genevieve and a love that desires to overcome to find its home. What did I like? I like the simple yet powerful story of love overcoming any obstacle, the author delivers a realistic spin on a love story that would melt the hardest of hearts.

'Highlander most wanted' is a medieval historical but unlike others in this genre, namely victorian or georgian historical romance it doesn't have a difficulty factor concerning the language they use. Instead the language adds a charm to the feel of the book, leaning towards its time and era. I loved the hero rescuing the heroine plot and I can't deny that a rugged, handsome warrior is always a bonus for my reading experience. I can't possibly review this book without mentioning the character, Genevieve and her unending strength of character I loved her continual hope for the future despite her past and heart breaking circumstances, if their was ever a character that deserved a medal this leading lady would be first in the line. Bowen Montgomery delivered in the warrior stakes his love for his beloved was beyond magical and although I struggled to connect fully to them as characters I can't deny that the author hit the mark with swoony dialogue.

Why not five? Unfortunately I found the book repetitive and even though there was a differing plot line from book one the author didn't stray to much from the tried and tested method she used previously. Often times predictability is a comfort in my reading escape but I wanted more from this novel, I needed to be surprised and excited by the plot and sadly it didn't deliver. I also felt a little disconnected from the characters, on the one hand I thought the author described the characters background and difficulties with great care and detail leading me to feel sympathetic towards the heartache but the characters connection fell a little flat for me. I'll say again undoubtably this book and series is a huge five star read for most readers, but for me on this day it didn't quite hit the mark, I'm putting it down to a huge case of 'it's not you it's me' and I'm hoping others readers can grab this book and fall in love. Final thoughts. As far as a romance goes you won't get much more of a love story anywhere else.

If you love a story of love overcoming evil then this will undoubtedly deliver and if you haven't started this series yet meeting Graeme Montgomery in the first book of the series is a must. Go grab it readers, enjoy. 4+++ sweet and sighworthy stars. 'Such a wondrous thing. Something she'd been so long without. The Montgomerys and the Armstrongs are finally at peace with each other and together they decide to take revenge for what Ian and Patrick McHugh did to Graeme Montgomery's wife Eveline. Ian kidnapped her and his father Patrick, laird of the McHugh keep, allowed him to keep her hostage within the walls of his property. For that, they both must suffer. Graeme already killed Ian but now it is time to deal with the rest of the McHugh clan.

And so, the Montgomerys and the Armstrongs, led by Bowen, Teague, Aiden and Brodie, join forces and head off to their keep. Once they arrive though, they find out Patrick has already fled. What they find instead, is the remainder of the keep and the woman who helped them point out where Eveline was hidden the moment they came to rescue her, Genevieve McInnis. Genevieve McInnis is the kind of heroine you'll immediately feel sorry for. She's a woman thoroughly broken, for a full year she has been kept prisoner by the cruel man that was, Ian McHugh.

He has manipulated her, humiliated her, taken her from her family and loved ones and used her in the most awful way possible. He sees women as objects, possessions and because he would not allow any other man to ever lay his longing eyes on Genevieve again, he has scarred one of her cheeks, ruined her perfect face. 'She was quite possibly the most fascinating female Bowen had ever laid eyes on.

One side of her face was impossibly perfect. The other was a complete tragedy.' Yet, Genevieve's scar does not prevent Bowen from taking an interest in her. For some inexplainable reason he is drawn to her and he's able to see past the scars on her face, and instead focus on the beauty she still has left in her heart and in her soul. Bowen Montgomery *SIGH* he's pretty much the perfect man for Genevieve, a tough warrior and her only champion, but at the same time he's also sweet, caring and very protective.

And most of all, he wants nothing more than to make Genevieve happy, to finally give her the freedom she's so desperately hoping for; and for that he's willing to give up everything. Still, their journey knows many obstacles. Not only are there are lies and deceit that, were they ever to come out, could destroy their entire relationship. At the people of the McHugh clan do not waste any opportunity to humiliate Genevieve as long as she is within their keep. This makes it hard for her to let anyone close and especially, to trust that anyone would ever truly care for her. But Bowen is determined to show her the meaning of true love. 'He wanted to show her how it could be between a man and a woman.

Take away all the pain and humiliation and shame and, in their place, giver her something beautiful.' This story was captivating sweet, romantic and at times sad but, overall, it left me with a happy feeling. Highly recommended for fans of historical romances AND fans of any other kind of romance genre! The Montgomerys and the Armstrongs have managed to captivate my heart and I'm already looking forward to reading the next part of this series. 'If I should never be with another man again, I would want you to be the last,' she whispered. 'Show me, Bowen.

Show me what it's like. Take away the memory of Ian.' 'You'll never have to beg me for anything, my love. If you ask me for the moon, I'll fetch it for you.'

**ARC courtesy of Random House Publishing Group via Netgalley**. I guess it would really have been impossible to live up to the first book. And, it didn't. This book is like a potato. It's pleasant enough if you liked the last book, but it isn't really new or exciting. As a matter of fact, there are so many similarities in the sequence of events from the last book that I think the author was working off the same outline.

Okay, maybe it is environmentally friendly to use the same outline, but still. And, not only was the sequence of events almost the same, but this story felt a lot more depressing. The girl is disfigured and has been raped, held prisoner, and abused for the past year.

Not exactly your happy-happy-joy-joy kinda story. And, throughout the book she continues to be abused by her abuser's clan. But, the guy is a nice guy. He protects her and wants to make sure she is never hurt again. Still, he falls in love with her way too quickly.

And, honestly, the only thing that she has going for her is the sympathy card thing. It's not like he gets to know her or anything. He just sees that she survived the horrors of the past year and wants to protect her. I don't know if pity is as attractive as all that.

I can admire someone for being strong and overcoming adversity, but it doesn't mean I'm madly in love with them. Also, he's supposedly the most beautiful man on the planet who can have any woman he chooses. And, hey, if wants to choose a girl who he admires because of her strength, that's great. But, it seems like he loves her because of sympathy for her and his desire to protect her from further pain. If all beautiful men are like this then I want someone to send a note to Chris Hemsworth and let him know that I once stubbed my toe and didn't even cry. That's strength through adversity. I know, you are amazed at my bravery.

Go ahead and spread my story to the world. I live to give hope to others.

I didn't know what to expect when I picked up this book. I had challenged myself this year to start reading books outside my normal reading box.

I have not read a historical romance in such a long time ( I am thinking years.) This book was just so heartbreaking and beautiful! This book is a book 2 in a series. I had not done my homework.a million pardons.but I wanted to give it a go because I could satisfy my historical romance requirement and I would also lose my Maya Banks cherry!! I have not read this author before! It took me a hot minute to get into this book only because I did not know the story that lead into this book. But once I was in.I fell.heart first.

Completely in love My heart broke for Genevieve. She was kept prisoner by a monster who raped her, beat her, allowed his men to use and abuse her, and he scarred her. Shame and humiliation were her constant companions. Her only companions. He'd slashed her face with his knife, swearing before God that no man would look upon her with desire. A jagged scar ran the length of her face, starting at her temple and ending at the corner of her mouth. She was treated as a whore while she was in the hands of the monster and the things his clan did to her.broke my heart.

For Bowen to see past her scar and past her torture. He was a true Champion. I'm not going to lie here. This book had its fair share of the word Champion.and that being my last name and the name of my very own hero and love of my life.❤❤ Scott Champion.I experienced SWOON, SIGH, SNIFF, SOB OVERLOAD. We are talking EPIC proportions of this sweet, strong, warrior, with a heart of pure gold, champion ~ Bowen Montgomery~. I was captivated and swept up in the romance of this love story. I had shoulder shaking sobs and then just so many heart-clenching moments.

Their love story was gorgeous. 'Have you lost your mind?' 'Tis clear I have,' Bowen bit out. 'Tis no fault of mine that I fell in love with the lass. Do you know how ridiculous it sounds? I fall in love with a woman made a whore by another man. I fall in love with a woman whose face was ruined by a blade.

I fall in love with a woman who betrayed my kin. Take your pick. Tis obvious I'm not in my right mind, but it does not change the fact of what is.' Such sweetness she'd never known. Never had a man been so tender and patient with her. She knew not what her future would hold, but for tonight she wanted only this. To be in Bowen's arms.

To know, just for a moment, what it felt like to be cherished and loved. She could pretend the past never happened. That her face was unmarked and that sins hadn't been committed. That Bowen was her love-her only love-and that he was the first to ever touch her 'Once I would have been worthy of you,' Genevieve said ' I was once innocent and untouched. Now I am no more than the lowliest whore. Certainly not fit for a warrior bearing the Montgomery name.' Bowen, because he loves her so.makes the ultimate sacrifice to make her happy and make her whole.he must let her go.

CUE THE SIGHS AND SWOONS.You've been warned.soft breeze and violins.here goes. 'I'll never forget you, Bowen Montgomery, I did not think a man such as you existed.' 'Be happy, my love,' he whispered 'Be happy.

Tis all I ask. I can live and die a content man as long as you are happy and well cared for. ' 'I love you Bowen. I would not leave without telling you so. I will never love another.

You will always hold a place in my heart and I'll think of you often, in my dreams and in the waking.' ❤Such a wondrous thing. Something she'd been so long without❤ 'I would love her and care for her all of my days,' Bowen said quietly. 'There is no other man who would love her more.' 'You'll never have to beg me for anything, my love. If you ask me for the moon, I'll fetch it for you' Challenge MET.

Heart OBLITERATED. Love soaring into the beautiful Highland Mountains. This story will stay with me forever. I don't care if he was not wearing an Armani Suit.he was rich with love and he was the Champion of Champions ❤❤❤ 'You are an angel sent from God at last,' she whispered. ' I prayed for so long for one.

I thought He had forgotten me surely'. ' I come too late. I have saved you from none of your misery. Would that I had known your plight earlier.

I would have come, Genevieve. I would have saved you ' ❤ Bowen ❤ me thinks you just caused me to modern day swoon!!!

Bowen Montgomery.RAWRRRRR!! Maya Banks has tapped in something she’s really good atwriting Highland romances. Admittedly, I have not read any of her books in other romance sub-genres, but the five within the two Highlander series that’s she written, McCabe Trilogy and The Montgomerys and Armstrongs, have hit a chord with me, most especially this latest series. She blew me away with this book. It appears that each book will have the same underlying theme, heroines with some sort of physical disability or permanent bodily injury, and it has captured my heart. The story starts off right where left off.

Genevieve McInnis awaits her fate, along with the clan that she has lived with for the past year. Bowen Montgomery has been sent by his brother Graeme to deal with the McHugh clan and their laird Patrick. Graeme killed his son, Ian, when he avenged his wife Eveline, who was kidnapped, held captive and abused by Ian.

Little do the brothers know that the woman who helped them find Eveline is not who she appears to be and hers is a story of unbelievable heartbreak and sadness. I was sucked into this story, it was incredibly captivating! This author knows how to grab her readers and take them for an amazing ride filled with every kind of emotion. A huge plus for me is that we get to re-acquaint ourselves with characters that are familiar and we adore. The men of the Montgomery and Armstrong clans, Graeme, Bowen, Teague, Aiden, and Brodie, are fine, fine, fine.

Men among men, charmers, protective, honorable and HOTRAWRRRR!! I enjoyed how all of them played a part in the story and that we could see the potential set-up for some characters going forward. The women in this series are fierce, proud and have no problem standing up to these proud warriors. Genevieve and Taliesan jump into the fray to protect the clan, even when one of them had no reason to stand up for any of them. Further into the story Eveline and Rorie make an appearance too. That’s what I love about the way Maya Banks writes.

She doesn’t just focus on the two main characters, in this case Genevieve and Bowen, the story revolves around the family and the clan too. The chemistry between Bowen and Genevieve is immediate, but it takes time for the trust to build. As Genevieve’s heartbreaking story is revealed, Bowen finds himself falling for this broken, yet resilient beautiful woman. He shows her how it should be between a man and a woman; he is patient, loving and kind.

Bowen is willing to give up everything to be with Genevieve and insure her happiness. I was bowled over by this story. I couldn’t imagine that Maya Banks could write a better book than, or have a more endearing heroine or amazing hero, well I was wrong.

With hints in this book who will be featured in the next one, [ Taliesan and Brodiefingers crossed ], it should prove to be a great read and I can’t wait! When he encounters a very scared Genevieve, he doesn't know how to handle her. He'll have to learn that there's a first time for everything - even when it means humbling oneself. They have both born shame.

They have both faced ugliness. Together, they are beautiful. This was such a lovely read. Genevieve stood out for me as quite the unique character.

Because she was scared and unable to express herself, she was disregarded and misunderstood, which made her journey seem even more courageous. After time, Genevieve had the inner warrior drawn out of her, but it took some patience, nurturing, and even fear of losing her new-found freedom to call forth her inner strength.

I will list a trigger warning for those who wish to avoid books with mentions of abuse or sexual assault. There are no graphic or explicit scenes, but there are details given of her history, as well as one scene in which the main character has to fight off an attacker. The highlight for me of Highlander Most Wanted was the slow build of the relationship. Watching Bowen and his unfailing patience with Genevieve as she started to come out of her shell.it was the sweetest thing to witness.

She was suffering. Away from the prying eyes and disparagement of others. He should walk away and not let on that he'd been here at all. But he couldn't. This seems to be a difficult story for me to review, as romances often can be. So much of a romance is tied up in a couple falling in love and their personal journey together.

As readers, we all know ahead of time that the couple will end up together, so it's not generally a big reveal to go ahead and let other readers know of a few special moments, but this time, I'd rather you discover these moments for yourselves. Enjoy the journey. One last thing: Since it's rarely a 'Stacia-fied' review unless I have something to nitpick, I'll go ahead and give you my laugh moment of the night.

Those of you who've read many of my contemporary reviews will know that I constantly complain about the 'your love is like a drug' references. Just when I thought I was safe from them in historicals, I had to go and stumble upon this: 'You're like a drug in my blood. An addiction I have no desire to ever conquer.' It's another solid five-star read and as I've been waiting for this one. It was all I expected and more, but it was also darker. Genevieve's story broke my heart. Ian McHugh captured her a year ago and held her captive as his personal toy.

The rest of the clan was outright awful in their treatment of her. Now, Ian is dead and the Montgomerys and the Armstrongs take hold over the McHugh keep. Bowen is the best hero ever. I wanted to shake him a few times in the beginning but after that he was beyond amazing. I loved that he realized that he loved Genevieve before she did, and how he slowly set out to woe her.

He helped her regain her trust and sense of self worth. And I cried happy tears towards the end.

Eveline is as awesome in this book as in the first. Go read it now. That's all I can say. You won't be disappointed. The cover art is T-O D-I-E F-O-R!! Maya Banks just announced in FB the Hero will be Graeme's brother Bowen and the heroine is Genevieve who is a tortured heroine.

Think I will stick to the Historicals by Ms Banks in future. She sure can spin a real nice Highland Fling. Am off to Scotland at Easter and hoping to catch me a glimpse of a Bowen lookalike. Or any of those Montgomery and Armstrong lookalikes. 'Tis time for me to rise. I wish it were not so. 'Tis the truth I'd rather never leave this chamber, and I'd sell my soul to do nothing more than kiss you for the rest of my days.'

LOL But, no, seriously, another stellar 5-romance-star book from Maya Banks. I am so grateful to Navessa for informing me of this author's existence - I had no idea. Thank you, Navessa. This is a Highland, Scottish historical romance - you know the type.

Kilts, plaids, aye, nay, clans and bairns and lairds etc. What is so wonderful about Banks' books though (I have read this one and ) is that her heroes are so patient, kind, compassionate, merciful and respectful.

There's no sexual aggression or dub-con. Alpha-asshole-ness to them. They are still, you know, 'tough warriors and brutal fighters blah blah blah' but they treat their women right. I don't have to worry that they are going to do the normal historical-hero rape-y stuff that usually happens. Instead, everything is sweet, sexy, romantic perfection.:) Another extra added bonus in this book was a kind of hinting at female leadership roles (as a side thought, actually, Never Seduce a Scot included a tiny bit of this, too). Totally unrealistic for the time period, but HELLO, need I remind you - this is a romance novel and nothing is realistic, okay?

LOL Anyway, I have NOTHING bad to say about this book, I ate up every word. So many intense feelings. My heart felt like it was in a vise the whole time. I was so worried and anxious about the characters, even though I know this is a romance and everything would turn out happily. Banks uses the abused-woman-escapes-from-her-abuser-and-finds-love-in-the-arms-of-a-good-man trope, which as we all know is one of my favorite tropes in romance novels.

If you like kissing, patient sweet kind respectful men, riding horses across Scottish moors, damaged-woman-healed-by-love kind of books - this is your jam.:) I thought it was AMAZING. Even the sex was pretty good! 5 ROMANCE STARS, 3 REAL STARS. I've had a hard time rating this book.

He's supposed to be a mighty warrior, and at the beginning he was, but he ended being just. As I said, at the beginning I liked him: he used his brain to put into perspective Genevieve's situation and not just jump on conlusions. He was considerate to her and defended her. So it was nice. But, BUT when he fell in love and realized that he lost his backbone. He starts with Oh, how I love her!

I'll do everything for her! I'll sacrifice my happiness for her! I'll die for her! OK, that's nice but don't overdo it! And here it was over-over-overdone! Genevieve was better. At the beginning she's obviously mistreated (to say it softly.poor girl.), depressed (understandably), disillusioned.

She didn't trust, didn't smile, didn't hope. When Bowen starts courting her, she slowly comes out, but she's still afraid: it's not easy for her.

But she tries and, at the end, she comes out of her shell and becomes a happy person. She should have more reason to be a moping, dobting, etc. But she wasn't! Another thing that I couldn't understand is [why they didn't think about marriage? Maybe I got it wrong, but in those times, when a lass is 'ruined' as Genevieve was, the family is not so 'choosy' about a husband: the important is to find one.

] But they never thought about it, never even rise the question. At the end it was THE solution!

So, why 3 stars? Because the writing was nice and the story was nice and Genevieve was nice.

This story grabbed me right from the first word. Maya sure knows how to write in an elegant way and I found myself thinking how beautifully the words flow. The characters were so FANTASTIC! I absolutely Loved the heroine Genevieve.

She had such courage and pride even after all the suffering she went through. I don't remember reading a heroine going through as much as Genevieve had been through and even in the most of humiliating of circumstances she held her head high. The hero Bowen sigh I loved him too. He was EVERYTHING a hero should be and so much more. He saw the the pain, evil and cruelty that Genevieve had been through and even knowing that she did a wrong towards his brothers wife, he stuck by her and championed her.

Bowen was so kind, giving and patient with Genevieve that it set the romance in this book soaring high. These two did not jump into bed either, they really got to know each other and YES, fall in love before they shared a bed. There were only a few love scenes in this book but they were so loving and sensual that even I would not have changed a single thing nor did I feel the need for more. Of course I shed a few tears along the way. I was emotionally drawn into the story and the characters. The ending was really good but I have one small complaint, NO EPILOGE!!

Well maybe this is a big complaint because even though it ended happy, we did not get a concluded HEA. I certainly hope that Maya will mention all the characters in this series at the end and give us readers the HEA that they all deserve. Now the LONG wait for the next book in this series is on.

It is mentioned at the end of this book saying that the next book will be released in Fall of 2013. IIIEEEEEE, I'll be going crazy for the next book. I wish we could kidnap Maya and lock her up so that she would work only on this series, LMAO! I wonder if the next book will be the third Montgomery brother, Teague's story. The wait is on.....

She is such an amazing author! 'I am not worth such a vehemence,' She said, refusing to meet his gaze. He captured her chin and forced her look at him.

His eyes were angry, and his lips were drawn into a tight line. 'You're worth it to me It starts were we left of in book one, after Eveline has been rescued from Ian, the guy that imprisoned and abused her.

But this time the story follows Genevieve, who has been imprisoned by Ian in the McGugh Keep as well, long before Eveline. When Bowen storms the gates on a mission of clan warfare, Genevieve finally finds a spark of hope for freedom. But even then, her path is uncertain.

However, she can't stand being a prisoner any longer and decides to take off. That is until Bowen stirs something inside her that longs to be awaken. He touches a part of her that she long thought was lost. Bowen is captivated by her beauty and strength, her determination, and soon finds himself in love with her.

But what will happen when Genevieve tells him a secret that might turn the whole Montgomery's clan against her? Will he stand beside her, or will he turn his back on her, like everyone else? Will he give back her freedom, even if it means loosing her forever? He would show her this night how it could be with a man who loved her This was me, every time i got to a new chapter, and especially when i got the book in my mail. Have you read this book yet? Who was your favorite character?

Did you like the previous one better? Let me know down below! What i thought of Genevieve?: I found Genevieve a very likable character, and i was connected to her from page one.

Even after all she has been through her spirit is not broken, and she doesn't just give up, she fights. Every time i read about what has happened to her, and about her feelings, i go through what she is going through. It's just so sad, i had tears in my eyes practically the entire time i was reading. What i thought of Bowen?: Bowen was a very caring and loving character. The whole time i was preying for someone to defend and stand up for Genevieve, and there he goes, all knight in armor trying to rescue the princess. It was hard not to fall in love with him. And even though i did, i still loved Genevieve more.

For me, she outshines Bowen, just a little. If you have not read book one yet, then i highly advance you to do so before reading this one.

And no, you do not have to, but it's so worth it, because they are both amazing! 'If i should never be with a man again, i would want you to be the last,' She whispered. 'Show me Bowen. Show me what it's like.' And it's kind of shameful to admit, but i started crying a tiny bit on page 30.

I just wanted to get inside the book, and hug Genevieve so tight she wouldn't be able to breathe. The love scenes were gentle and caring. Not hard, but soft and slow. Bowen was taking such a great care with Genevieve it was heart warming.

And then the next day he would caress her back or hair. He is so damn sweet. Every once in a while, he pressed a kiss to her brow, because he was unable to keep from touching her and kissing her in even the smallest of ways. The ending was so cute and beautiful! And can we just pause here and look at the gorgeous cover? All the covers in this trilogy are just so stunning.

Wait for it.wait for it. Yep, go ahead and faint. I was sure as heck close when i saw this. ISN'T THIS THE MOST OUTSTANDING AND BREATHTAKING COVER EVER!?

Overall, Highlander Most wanted was a very well written and emotional book. It had a great heroine and it was a very good read, very romantic with the abused but strong heroine finding her one man. I definitely recommend this to readers who love HR and also to romance lovers in general.

Ian was obsessed with her and wanted her for himself but she had always turned him down. So, he took her and scarred her face in hopes that no man would ever desire her. The abuse came to an end when Grame Montgomery killed Ian for kidnapping his wife in Never Seduce A Scot. When Bowen Montgomery shows up at the McHugh Keep, she doesn't know if she can trust him. Soon, she starts to fall for him for is gentleness and kindness, something she hasn't had in a long time.

Bowen Montgomery has returned to the McHugh Keep to take it over, now that it is abandoned, and to seek revenge on Patrick McHugh, Ian's father. When he meets Genevieve, he is upset for all she had endured but admires her for surviving. He becomes attracted to her because of her strength and beauty that goes deeper than her appearance. He wants nothing more than for her to be happy and be free again. But it seems that they may not be able to be together. Genevieve was one bad ass chick. She was so courageous, strong, damaged and fragile all at once.

She was abused by Ian throughout the entire year she spent with him as well as by those he let abuse her. She has one side of her face scarred by a knife, it was Ian's way of branding her as his. What I love about her is that she didn't let Ian break her. She didn't let the clans people to tear down her spirit completely with their words.

She managed to keep herself together after all that torment and still have a heart and care. Plus, she's just freaking awesome with a bow and arrow!! I did feel my heart break for all that she had to go through. I couldn't believe she survived it all without going crazy. I don't think I could have lasted as long as she did. I hated how terrible the women were towards her.

How could they mistreat her when they knew about her situation, it's not like she asked to be there. Genevieve was an amazing woman for still being able to have her dignity. ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● 'If I should never be with another man again, I would want you to be the last,' she whispered. I thought he had forgotten me, surely.” Bowen’s features tightened and darkened. “I come too late. I have saved you from none of your misery. Would that I had known of your plight earlier. I would have come, Genevieve.

I would have saved you.” ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● Bowen was such and great man. He was the only one that was her champion. The only one who was interested enough in actually getting to know her and not believing in the rumours of her being just a whore. I loved how kind, tender and protective he was with her. He was able to see her for who she was behind that scar on her face, but was also able to see the beauty in her scar. It was a symbol of her resilience and how she was able to make it.

I loved how he fell for her first and how he wooed her. He didn't push her into anything but took his time to show her how it feels like to be loved. He was so wonderful and selfless.

I loved him and I thought together they were perfect. Highlander Most Wanted was a very sweet and emotional story. I never wanted it to end.

I seriously cannot get enough of Maya Bank's highlanders. I loved all the characters.

Well except the evil ones, of course. I loved the romance between Bowen and Genevieve *Sigh*. There were some sad moments that made me tear up, but also moments where I couldn't hold back my smile. The ending was beautiful, really enjoyed it. I definitely recommend you give this book a read.

I can't wait to read the next book with Brodie and Taliesan, I freaking loved them in this book! Although, it looks like it will have to be a long wait. But I'm still going to wait for it! 3.5 stars This was a hard book to read. But boy was it thought provoking. It reminds me of this author's Pregnancy & Passion series - really thought provoking but not always enjoyable. In general, I found the book to be pretty depressing.

Genevieve has been raped and tortured for a year. How can that not be depressing? And all she has to show for it was a clan full of nasty bitches and reprehensible men who call her a whore. So with that setting, how in the world do I get to 3.5 stars? Basical 3.5 stars This was a hard book to read.

Basically because the book was totally enthralling, the hero was really admirable and it made me think. This was not a book where I loved the hero, Bowen, he was good, but I did feel like he was a bit of a perv for thinking as he did and doing what he did with a rape victim. The first scene at the loch really bothered me. He had no respect for her privacy.

I never got totally comfortable with their romantic relationship. We did not really see the 'courtship' so I did not get there. The sex creeped me out so I skimmed it. I did not feel any real heat between them up until that point and I just felt he was continuing to use her as a whore (that is an exaggeration, but it is exactly how everyone would see it as there were no words of love or promises between them).

While I admire his actions at the end, I thought it should have been handled a bit differently. I cannot discuss it without giving away a major spoiler. His manwhore past was also something that got tiresome to read about. Who would want to go home with him where he readily admits to sleeping with every lass in the vicinity?

That is just gross. I am glad it bothered him to, but too little, too late. Luckily it was never discussed with the heroine or in her face.

Thank goodness for that! Genevieve - this is where it gets controversial. I know I should have the ultimate sympathy for such a victim. And in most regards I do.

I admire that she survived and I love that she can use a bow and arrow with lethal accuracy. But that is pretty much where my admiration ends. It is hard to talk about without giving away, but let me say that there is something she did, and while I understand she had few choices in her hellish world, I could not admire her for the choice she made.

It is a personal reaction because it goes against my moral code. I would never put an innocent in the line of fire to save my own ass.

Easy for me to say, not having lived a victim for a year, but I hope I would not and I do not think I would, therefore it is hard for me to forgive her for doing it. Her actions after that did nothing for me, because I felt she reaped what she sowed. The fact that it allowed the hero and others to forgive her, ok I am fine with that.

Even without loving the MCs, this was a really good book. It is not a happy read.

It ends well, but it is a hard road to get there. Safety gang other triggers [ She was raped and tortured for a year. Not overly detailed rememberances, but enough to bother some. There is an assault and near rape during the book Bowen was a manwhore. He does quite a bit of recollecting on his behavior. The women of the keep come on to him a lot.

But he does not think about anyone in particular or even think about it all positively. He sort of realizes that his behavior was OTT, if not disgusting. This was an absolute delight to read. Immensely touching, the scarred heroine trope has been rejuvenated under Maya Bank's touch, as she has again given our scarred heroine a happily-ever-after with her own sweet, kind, and gentle hero. Taking off after the events in the first book, Never Seduce A Scot, Bowen Montgomery has been sent to claim the McHugh keep and avenge the wrongs done to his new sister-in-law.

There, he encounters the most beautiful woman he's ever seen, before he sees that half of her face has been marred by knife strokes. Facing a new lord, Genevieve is just one step away from surrendering herself, in mind and body, to whoever will give her freedom. Genevieve is an incredibly strong woman. She has suffered so much in both body and spirit, yet she emerges from her horrors with a true dignity and a truer strength anyone would admire.

Despite her spirit, however, she is undoubtedly human and at the verge of giving up, trying to enclose herself in a protective shell that would block all future pain. It takes an amazing person to defend those who had ostracized her and insulted her at every turn, and even more amazing that she would stand up to unknown adversities when Bowen storms the McHugh clan. I also like that she is very real for someone in her position, willing to sacrifice what's left of her morals to save her life, that desperateness revealing the depth of her emotional scars. For all that Genevieve needs, Bowen is the most fitting of them all. He is just the kind of strong and protective hero to clean away all of Genevieve's scars and show her the beauty of life that was stripped away from her.

Bowen's loyalty to his laird comes into conflict with his initial perception of Genevieve, but his understanding character makes him see the true Genevieve and comes to love her. For him, this novel was a test of character and leadership, and ultimately, finding the missing piece to the puzzle of his heart, in Genevieve. The characters are wonderful, and I greatly emphasized with both Genevieve and Bowen as they navigated their lives and through each other. The plot is engaging and fast-paced, adding just enough excitement among pensive sequences to display the external and internal facets of the characters.

The teaser of Genevieve's friend Taliesan, and Brodie Armstrong, is sure to become another wonderfully crafted healing romance. I find myself in awe of Mrs. Banks's writing once again, as the words dance off the page to create a blazing chemistry between Genevieve and Bowen, their love so tender and strong that I shed tears for their final happiness. Once again, this is a stunning novel by Maya Banks, sure to lure in every romance lover and make for hours of uninterrupted reading. I am now anticipating the next book in the series, Highland Ever After, featuring Taliesan McHugh and Brodie Armstrong.

I highly recommend this book to any romance reader, as they will be sure to fall in love with Genevieve and Bowen. I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley.

Her contemporary stuff does not look interesting to me. Synopsis in one sentence or slightly more: Highly abused and scarred heroine, raped, sliced, mistreated and branded a whooooore. I had a hard time wrapping my head around going from being raped to sensual.

Back and forth. But she did this thing. I don't trust her.

I lust for her. But she did this thing. DUDE.I am over you. Cue the inner 'you whine like a little b!tch' eye roll. Why it did or didn't work for me: Man, it just was so meh.

I mean I thought this could be awesome read. The heroine, scarred, hurt, making her way back to becoming human, loved, believing in herself. Her own personal rebirth or some such. Instead, I keep focusing on a whiney hero who just can't make up his mind, man up, and do the right thing. Look, it was a fine listen.

It just got boring. I've had better. 5 Romantic Stars!!! This story the Heroine takes center stage, and I loved it! Genevieve has been held prisoner by Ian McHugh for a year and has been repeatedly raped by Ian and some of the men in his clan.

Despite what she has been through and her defiant attitude he is captivated by her. Bowen sees her strength, her beauty and very quickly is drawn to her. Bowen sets out to be her champion and her defender. I loved Bowen!

He is a man who is increditably handsome and has jumped from woman to woman, but he sees Genevieve and he is captured by her spirit and sees her beauty not her scar. And I also loved that towards the end of the book Bowen realizes what is best for Genevieve and makes sure it happens, despite the fact it will be man he doesn't see her again.

Now there was not a lot of sex in this book, but honestly it made sense for the story, and I really didn't miss it. This was romance and I so so loved it! The seriousness of Genevieve's trauma kept a depressing feel to the story for most of the first 3/4, but I wish the author would have given more detail to the story and characters to really pull off this darker theme. Overall, I was hoping for a little more to the story but it was still a decent read.

So far I like the first Scottish trilogy by Banks better than this one. Check out this review and others like it at This book was an emotional ride for me. You may ask if these are historically accurate? It is a wonderful escape. This novel centers on two families, previously at odds against each other but now are allied. Pirates 2 Movie Free Online. Reading the first story before this one is a must. As the set-up of the drama and battle that happens at the beginning of Highlander Most Wanted happens at the conclusion of #1.

Banks' is very good at creating scarred heroines - both physically and emotionally. The first in this series dealt with a less than perfect heroine and this one followed that pattern. This book is moving. I read this series and Banks' other historical romance series to be entertained as an escape -- romance, sexy heroes, sexy scenes and a faraway setting. Yet this book was more than that for me. I did not expect to be as emotionally moved as I was by Highlander Most Wanted.

This novel brought me to tears several times -- by what the heroine endured and how the hero treated her. Ultimately the resolution of the tension and the problem is satisfying. To get to that resolution is a slow build to. It does not happen quickly or easily. The setting, while likely not historically accurate, is painted with a realistic feel in that the characters are fighting for daily comforts -- food, warmth and safety.

It is sort of an adult Little House on the Prairie with ummm, romance and sex. I cannot wait until #3 in this series is released. These are great escape novels. Do not expect Outlander and do not expect detailed historical accuracy -- but you can expect an emotional story with a satisfying ending. I WANT A BOWEN.

This book was so good, I loved every second of it. Genevieve went through some serious s#%t and the way Bowen championed her and came to love her was beautiful. Banks did a great job making these characters real and making the reader truly care about them. Also, she did a wonderful job of detailing Genevieve's past without actually DETAILING Genevieve's past. I love a good Medieval and I truly love this series.

In my opinion, this is Banks at her finest. If you like aw I WANT A BOWEN.

To view it, My review contains spoilers and they're mostly my thoughts as I went with the book. Honestly I’m not even motivated to write a full review for this book, but I’ll do it anyway. I zzzZZzz my way through the last 40% of it, while eye-rolled through almost all. I liked book 1 quite a bit more than this.

I’ve read better, much better stuff from some wonderful debut authors this year. Her storyline bordered on.. Did I mention, BORING?

The ARC had quite a few glaring mistakes, making Bowen as Brodie or Brodie as Bowen more than once, and I had to re-read to understand who is actually being mentioned in that particular scene. Too bad, the cover is so very gorgeous! *sigh* In book 1,, both clans the Montgomerys and the Armstrongs are introduced.

Both are enemies since. No one even remembers from when, it has been that so long. None of the clans can stand the sight of each-other. They both are the biggest and most thriving clans of the Highlands and yet, they don’t even need an excuse to call a bloody war on each-other. So King Alexander II planned something for them to stop this (more than a little) unnecessary bloodshed; he plans for a marriage between Laird of the Montgomerys, Graeme with the daughter of Laird of the Armstrongs, Eveline. Now Eveline was said to be deaf-mute, which is why I was so interested to read it.

MB disappointed me by giving back her voice by the half of the book and making her chatter away like she was never even harmed in any way! It was plain odd. But the story was sweet and warm so I overlooked those things. I really liked Graeme and his gruff, cuddly bear-like persona, that scar on his face and his instant bonding with Eveline even after all the enmity. Graeme and his brothers, the most handsome (and womanizer) Bowen and the younger, Teague weren’t happy about this marriage.

They worried for their clan, and for their only sister, the ‘baby’ of the family, Rory. Same thing was taking place in Armstrong clan when the marriage announcement reached them. Both Tavis and Robina are more than worried for their only daughter and how she’d be treated in the hands of the Armstrongs. Brodie and Aidan, Eveline’s brothers don’t want this to happen, and yet, no one can reject the King’s dictates. Now, Eveline had a suitor before she was injured and lost her hearing; the McHugh heir Ian. Ian is cruel, with a volatile temperament and he gets whatever he wants. Eveline was one of those ‘things’ he wanted but never got because Eveline wasn’t happy about this match from the beginning.

It was said over and over again that Ian whispered dirty stuffs to Eveline, as in, things he means to do to her which scared her off so much so that she ran and got herself injured. In the course of the story, Ian is back with his wuss of a father, Patrick. He kidnaps Eveline. Of course, Graeme and both of the clans unite to save her from Ian’s clutches. Graeme kills Ian, Patrick flees. In the McHugh keep, they meet a mysterious woman who helps in Graeme’s search of his beloved wife by showing him where she’s imprisoned.

I knew this mysterious woman is going to be Bowen’s match by that time. Overall, this was a good book and I was looking forward to the next.

This story resumes immediately after book 1. While Graeme has taken Eveline back to Montgomery keep, Bowen remains here with Brodie, Aidan and Teague to take care of the matters with the McHughs. Their main concern should’ve been Patrick but since he has fled leaving his clan destitute, Bowen knows he has to take up the task. Both clans unite for this purpose, a thing no one has ever witnessed in their history of blood and gore. A boy is sent down from the keep with a piece of white cloth, and Bowen is disgusted to see that no able bodied man is here to carry it. Then, a hooded woman comes out of the keep, and hides the boy under her cloak. Bowen and the rest is disgusted even more that a mere woman is here to greet them now, and yet all are intrigued.

Bowen asks her to remove her hood so that she can be seen. At first she won’t, but when she does, gasps go up in the air from the men. Once, for her beauty and the next, for the way one side of her cheek is marked with a badly healed scar that was clearly done to mar her beauty. All the men are horrified and the woman in question stiffens by this reaction. Her face turns white. Bowen suddenly feels ashamed by their reaction. He rather starts asking her things concerning the matter at hand.

The woman acts stiff, and replies vaguely, but asks them to follow her inside. The entry was easy, but Bowen was suspicious too. Who is this woman and why is she the one who’s letting them in? It’s Genevieve; a woman who has been sorely abused by Ian and his men over the past year after her abduction from her journey to her betrothed.

Genevieve is the only daughter of the McInnes laird and had the bad luck to be noticed by Ian at the court. When his attentions were spurned, he abducted her and killed the people who were accompanying her in that fateful journey. It was known that Genevieve has also died, even though her body was never recovered.

She has been living in a horrible condition since then, as nothing less than Ian’s sex slave. At first, Ian disfigured her so no one would ever want her. Then she has raped repeatedly while other men of Ian’s acquaintance watched. And some of them (I think hinted at multiple men at once) also raped her on Ian’s encouragement. Genevieve is seen as Ian’s ‘whore’ and no one, especially the women of the McHugh clan, can stand her.

They are always throwing jibes and dirty words at her. By now, Genevieve should’ve became inure to all these, and yet, their words sting the same.

The gasps of horror when someone sees her ruined face for the first time still makes her nauseous. Genevieve knows she has no future to look forward to and no clan to turn to except for this one, hate her as they do and as happy they would be to be rid of her. Even though, it seems like she’s free, something she never hoped to be unless her life ended, Genevieve is still worried of what will happen to her. The only friend she has here is a lame young girl called Taliesan. She’s the one who’s always genuinely ashamed of what happened to her, and takes her side in everything. Genevieve tries to take the control of the clan after Patrick fled because apparently there’s no able man here to do it.

She wants to make peace. Or at least try to make sure that there is no more bloodshed. And she’ll request the temporary laird to send her to a convent where she can spend the rest of her days. But easier said than done. Bowen Montgomery wouldn’t really listen to her. He’s suspicious of everyone, including her, and has good reasons for it too.

What grated on me was Bowen’s callousness. He had no tact with words. I’m sure he never needed it because of his manly beauty *eyeroll*, and women fell at his feet just like that; at least that was what was said in the story. Of course, Bowen reaped the reward whenever he felt like it. He called Genevieve Ian’s whore or asked her directly a few times which made me wanna slap his pretty face.

He hurt Genevieve with this, and yet, in a few pages, she is already smitten with the laird’s looks. *more eyeroll* Bowen tries to take inventory of the whole situation, which is not at all promising. The people are hostile, the food is disgusting, the living condition awful. It seems that the whole clan needs thorough cleaning.

He decides that he will stay here to take the McHughs at hand while some of his and the Armstrong men will return to Graeme to report him since he’s the official laird of the McHughs now. Bowen appoints himself as the temporary laird and bids the MacHugs to listen to his orders.

In between he meets Taliesan, and she tries giving him the details of what happened to Genevieve at Ian’s hands, but Genevieve forbids her. One way or the other, Bowen is intrigued to know more about this woman and what she is up to. Brody shows a possessive streak where Taliesan is concerned, helping her when she couldn’t walk well or picking her up etc., which told me that they are the couple for the next book (no subtlety there lol). He chooses to stay behind as well, and help Bowen out, while Aidan rides to the Armstrong clan for better food and Teague leaves to report to Graeme. Then comes the attack from Patrick McHugh to take back what used to be his. Bowen wasn’t ready in that sense, and is taken aback since he didn’t have half of his men at that point.

Genevieve is determined to take revenge and she brings out her bows and arrows to be done with Patrick, who helped his son to defile her over and over again, never raising his voice and yet, taunting her whenever he felt like it. Genevieve is very good with arrows. Fine, she might be but what I couldn’t perceive is that, if Ian took away most her precious possessions, whatever she had when she was abducted, how come he let her keep her arrows? Couldn’t she harm him with pointy, sharp arrows???? It was SO unbelievable after reading how cruel and mean Ian was, that I could only shake my head. That Genevieve never even tried using those arrows on him was amazingly dumb. Anyway, she takes the arrows, uses them after one long year and kills Patrick, aiming from a faraway tower.

It was that easy-peasy for her! Then she finds that Bowen is also in danger, goes down and saves him too. Bowen is totally amazed by her skill. But he’s also badly injured. As the enemy flees, Brodie and his men carry him unconscious to his chamber in the keep. Genevieve stitches his wound, a first time for her (the only experience she ever had was sewing clothes *eyeroll*) and does it good too!! She sits by Bowen, taking care of him for some days (and nights), exhausting herself in the process.

I could see she was going to make Bowen’s ‘good list’ pretty soon. His men already began liking her, even knowing bits and pieces of her fate at Ian’s hands. I liked that she wasn’t judged by Bowen’s men as harshly as the McHughs have done so far. When Bowen is back up, he’s glad to hear what Genevieve has done. Meanwhile, two men Genevieve ordered to fetch Teague back returns with him.

Teague was duely worried. One, because of Bowen’s injury and two, he’s heard some disturbing stuff about Genevieve. He decides to tell Bowen. This is something that even Genevieve knows, if gets out, wouldn’t earn her any mercy from either the Armstrongs or the Montgomerys. We get to see the meanness of the McHugh women, who harm Genevieve not only with their taunts and barbs, but also physically. Teague has already confided in Bowen about Genevieve’s possible involvement in Eveline’s abduction, yet, he could see how sorely abused this girl has been. He saves Genevieve when the women attack her with rock, calling her ‘whore’.

They were mad at her because a few of their husbands were executed due to their betrayal of Bowen, by helping Patrick. I was pretty mad at this, yet also happy the way Teague decided not to judge her. He’s here for some days, but soon leaves again to report to Graeme. Before he does, he informs Bowen that Genevieve was the one who influenced Ian to abduct Eveline!

Bowen can’t believe it, even Teague can’t but they need to verify this. Bowen is out of the bed soon enough and starts taking note of the things that has gone by since the attack. He also wants to know why Genevieve would help in the abduction. Now, I didn’t know if to believe this piece of information or not. But soon we’re told that the poor girl was desperate for any kind of help. No one here would’ve helped her and so, she seduced Ian (first time no force, I’m not sure how she even managed that after months of rape!) and influenced him to abduct Eveline.

Ian was idiot enough to fall for that. It was the only way for Genevieve because she knew once the Montgomerys and the Armstrongs are here, she’d be free of this hellish existence. But now that her ‘dream’ is a reality, will she be, indeed, free or will she now have to suffer the wrath of the new laird and both of these clans? Genevieve can’t think anymore and is very scared. Worst is, she has come to care for Bowen by this time and doesn’t want to hurt him. She confides in Taliesan, who requests Bowen to show mercy on Genevieve because she has suffered enough; a sentiment that is repeated many, many times throughout the story. Genevieve keep spending her time trying to make everyone around her happy.

Whenever someone showed her a little kindness, she became a watering pot and would keep thanking them repeatedly. And we kept hearing about her ordeal at Ian’s hand over and over and over and over and over again in every few paragraphs. I was at first sad, then annoyed, then plain angry at this blatant attempt from the author to glean pity for the heroine. I mean, I know already what she went through, now give me something that’d tell me how she’s going to heal! MB succeeded splendidly in that ‘gaining pity for the heroine’ part, but in the process, she took away my enjoyment.

And there was no plausible and believable way in the story to show Genevieve’s healing. Oh no, she had to have sex with Bowen and that healed her so well that she kept having sex with him every day after that! After one year of repeated rape and torture by multiple men???????????????? They become intimate after Genevieve is again attacked by one of Ian’s men, who was also one of those guys raped her before. Bowen saves her from the guy, kills him and takes care of her.

He, of course, keeps her in his chamber. She’s there for a while, no sex at first but because Bowen won’t let her out of his sight. Taliesan and Bowen’s men knew but they kept it a secret. This sleeping together led to kisses and talks, sharing confidences (whatever they can share), Bowen’s musings on his previous sluts/conquests and how badly he treated them, leaving them when the fun was over etc.

(*eyeroll*, anyone?). What, was that supposed to be something impressive? As a hero, Bowen was pretty dull. He bored me to sleep, literally. Then, when they started having sex finally, I kept thinking about their budding relationship.

I already had no idea why Bowen was so possessive and attracted to Genevieve in the first place since I found no connection or intensity of that kind between them from their previous encounters; where Bowen would be either suspicious of Genevieve or rather rude, leaving her hurt. I also had no idea how Genevieve could be so smitten with Bowen, and so fast, after all that she went through and more (as we’re drum-rolled throughout the story). Were they meant for to be together?

I was never really sure of that. To me, all these spelled out big FAIL and plain NO. Now Genevieve is daydreaming away to become Bowen’s wife but she knows he’ll never marry someone like her.

Bowen also wants her, but he thinks she should go and live with her family. Even though Genevieve never wanted her family to know about her ‘shameful’ ordeal, Bowen makes sure that the McInnes laird knows of his daughter. I thought it was nice of Bowen to think of her family, but what I couldn’t understand was why Bowen was acting as the martyr as if he’s losing her and won’t see her again. I mean, if he had good intentions to begin with, wouldn’t the McInnes laird give his consent to the marriage if he asked for it? After all, Bowen is the brother of the Montgomery laird and willing to take care of Genevieve. Moreover he was in love with her. When Graeme arrives, he leaves Teague and Brodie to take care of the McHughs and asks Bowen to take Genevieve to the Montgomery lands for her safety.

He could see that his brother has fallen hard and would do anything for the girl. Graeme was understanding when Bowen explained exactly why Genevieve did it and what she did to acquire Ian’s help, then to keep Eveline safe from Ian’s lecherous hands. Genevieve was welcomed in the Montgomery land with open arms from Rory to everyone else, a total opposite of her time with the McHughs.

Initially, she was a bit apprehensive about Eveline’s reception of her, but of course, we all knew that St. Eveline would forgive her too!

Genevieve still didn’t know about the imminent arrival of her parents. I think the scene of their reunion was the best part of the whole book.

I had tears in my eyes. I also totally admired the McInnes laird and his wife, Genevieve’s mother, for handling the situation so well, in every step showing that they indeed love their daughter more than anything in the world. Even when it was revealed that she was with child, they didn’t falter but was resolved to help her through it all. They still didn’t know it was Bowen’s of course, but a result of her abuse. When the truth was out though, both parents were happy. They already figured out that their daughter was in love with Bowen, and knew that there was only one way she would be happy; to have Bowen as her own.

I had questions here: like how come in that one yr of repeated abuse by multiple men, she never got pregnant once (not even a hint of a miscarriage or anything). And a few nights with Bowen and et voila, she is? I could talk about it, but I simply don’t see any nice way of discussing the whole thing so it’s probably for the best that I let it go. *sigh* But see what I mean by unbelievable? Even in a novel?? I’ve decided to read Taliesan-Brodie’s book,.

I can only hope that that book would be a much better delivery than this one. Her captor is dead, but she is not yet free, trapped by her 'fallen' reputation, although not of her own making, she is shamed, she hates what she has become and all that she has had to endure to survive. She has literally been stripped of all dignity and to top it all off she is hated by the clan who kept her captive. This part I found incredibly hard to take, I was angry for her. I was honestly emotionally shredded by her circumstances. If anyone is in need of a knight in shining armour, it is Genevieve. Enter Bowen Montgomery a man set on revenge for a wrong done to his sister in law.

He is honour, dignity and goodness incarnate. He quickly sees to the truth of things and sets about righting the incredible wrongs done to Genevieve.

This was my favourite sort of romance. It wasn't fast and rushed, there were many trials and tribulations that they had to go through before they could even get to the bottom of their feelings for each other. So much suffering as well takes it's toll, so learning to trust, regaining hope, learning to live again all took a front seat to passion between these two. I loved all things about this book.

Everything was so well done, the back story horrifying, but not over the top. These things were also not gone into in detail but they were described in a way that left no doubt to the very real chilling situation our heroine found herself in. The characters form the villain, hero, heroine and all the secondary characters were all interesting and very well fleshed out. Nobody felt hollow. The pacing was perfect, I was riveted the whole way through and as I said before I never put the book down. The passion and love I felt between the couple felt real and I will admit to shedding a tear or two towards the end.

This is a very high quality romance book, by a very high quality author. I have read other books of Maya Banks in her Mcabe Trilogy and these are of the same quality.

Just simply how romance books should be. I will definitely be reading more books in this series. Thank you Edelweiss for giving me the privilege to read this arc copy of Highlander Most Wanted. Foton Tractor Service Manual on this page. It was a pleasure.

I have come to expect a tender, sweet, sexy, tear inducing romance when I read a highlander book from Maya Banks and she does it yet again with Highlander Most Wanted! Genevieve McInnes was on her way to her betrothed when she was captured and held prisoner by the vile Ian McHugh for a year.

Her family thinks she is dead and when she is finally free, she thinks it is best to let them think that rather than bring shame from her scars and the way Ian treated her. She is broken emotionally and treated like dirt from the clan and hopes that the Montgomerys and Armstrongs will give her refuge away from the cruelty.

Bowen Montgomery seizes the clan that dare capture is sister in law and is struck by how cruel the clan is to one slip of a lass. When Genevieve tells her whole story he is unsure what to due, especially when she divulges her part in the capture of his sister in law. He finds himself falling hard for the spirited, brave lass and knows that he needs her in his life, even if it means falling out with his clan due to her actions. Such a lovely story yet at the same time, a heart breaking one. Genevieve's treatment is the worst sort and how she survived as long as she did took true strength. I loved the way Bowen became her champion and showed her how she deserved to be cherished above all, that her scars are a badge of honor and not a way to repulse him. I loved the strong family interaction and the way Bowen deals with Genevieve and her family situation brought tears to my eyes.

Yes, it was a bit easy but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I also enjoyed how the pacing was a bit different in this one.the action on the battlefield is earlier than I expected and then it just focuses on Genevieve and Bowen which was a bit unexpected. We get a nice glimpse of the upcoming couple for the next book and that story looks to be good! I hope Ms Banks is writing more in this series are there are still unattached brothers and a sister that need attention:) A strong setting, a strong attraction and a strong sense of honor with a nice dash of heat are all wrapped up wonderfully in this romance.

I can not wait for more Highlanders from Maya Banks!! 4 1/2 stars eARC provided by Ballatine Books via netgalley.
