Yesterday Motorola announced a trio of new Droid RAZR smartphones for Verizon. While average users will want to wait for the Verizon subsidized versions, developers have another option. Motorola has the Droid RAZR M Developer Edition available for purchase on its website for $549.99.

Not for the faint at heart Motorola is now offering the Developer Edition which is says is 'not for the faint at heart'. The phone looks exactly like the Motorola DROID RAZR M, including the edge-to-edge screen that the manufacturer is playing up in its ads for the device. Inside, well, again the Motorola DROID RAZR M Developer Edition is just about a carbon copy of the`original model. The only difference is that inside the Developer Edition is an unlocked bootloader. If you love to play around with your Motorola DROID RAZR M, install custom ROMs, or if you want to root your handset, the Developer Edition makes it happen. But just because Motorola is offering the phone with an unlocked bootloader doesn't mean that you won't lose your warranty if you take advantage of it. Make sure you know what you're doing because otherwise you could end up with an inoperable device.

And priced at $549.99, that would be quite an expensive brick to have purchased.
