Hard to say and might also depend on how you use your truck. I live in Missouri which also requires a front plate.

I actually replaced my plate holder with the smooth insert like on the passenger side. I just keep my front plate in the door pocket and will throw it up on the dash if I ever get stopped. If they ask, I'll just say there is no place to mount it in front and pay the ticket if they give me one. Although, I was told that displaying it on the dash is legal in Missouri. I haven't been stopped in 2 1/2 years with this truck and 2 1/2 years before that on my last truck. I do have an advantage living close to the Kansas border which doesn't require a front plate, so it's pretty common not to see front plates in my area. I just don't like the look with the offset plate on the front and didn't want to block the CAC since I tow sometimes.
